P. Ornata - Feeding help

Hiya. As i have said before, my male ornata is VERY shy and i dont see him very often/ for very long. I have never seen him eat, and i have to release crickets into his viv in the hope he finds them. I tried putting crickets in a tub in his viv, but for some reason he didn't show much interest. Does anyone have any good ideas to how i could monitor his feeding more accurately as he is rather thin. Thanks,

Ed ;)

I tried putting some tiny locusts into his viv today and i waited to see if he was interested in them. He came out and showed alot of interest and went up to a few and they just nipped them - didn't go for a proper attack. Could this be just because he is not sure what they are and will start to eat them soon?

Ed,
Ornata are very shy anyway.I dont see all of my Day Geckos eating but I know that they do as I can see the weight gain.
I would suggest either waxworms ,which you can put in a small feeding tub,or non livefod to gain weight.Mashed banana and honey or ready made baby food, mango or banana, is good.I find these both irresistable to geckos, but dont rely on them.
I have fed mine on locusts but I think mine are trained on crickets and so they dont always see slower moving locusts.
Good luck Colin

Awesome, thanks. He likes babyfood, but usually gorges himself and looks HUGE, and then looks thin again in the next day or two. I might try mix a tiny bit of cgd with the babyfood or something to give it a bit more nutrition so it will hopefully fatten him up. I haven't seen him at all today as i've been out (had my last exam so no school till september!!!) so im hoping he has tried a locust or two :D

I put some more little locust into his viv today, and he went and bit one but released it almost straight away. Then he seemed to like the taste so he went and bit another and ate it! He showed interest in more, but sadly i had to go out so couldn't stick around. He's looking fatter this evening so he might have eaten several (but definately ate one) :D
