So I was sitting around and checking out this forum and saw Pendragons build log http://www.geckosunlimited.com/comm...ium/48971-planted-crestie-viv-build-mkii.html And I got so inspired by his awesome build that I decided to build my own background for my exo-terra tank.

I'm planing to go in kind off the same direction as Pendragon, partially covering the sides and what not. I hope Pendragon is cool whit this as I don't wanna be known as a copycat

I've started with the background and have been taking pictures but since I've borrowed my girlfriends camera and she has the USB-cable at her place I'm not going to be able to upload any photos until this weekend.

So I took some pictures with my phone to let you guys have a sneekpeak of the background. I used a type of foam thats used when laying down concreatfoundations as such, I don't know the english term but directly translated it's called a "gound sheet" and it's 7cm thick.

Okay so here are the pictures I promised to upload.
I started by chipping away small peices with the knife but soon discovered just how timeconsuming that would be, so I began to scrape with the knife instead. I think it came out pretty good.

After scraping out the basic shape
of the background I made some ledges to fasten to the background. These ledges were fasten with pins and woodglue.

I then painted the whole background black, left it to dry over night and "drybrushed" it with grey the following morning. Hope you like what I've done this far.

Hi guys, more pictures will come this weekend since my terrarium is locked up at my brothers place and he dosen't know where he has his spare key

So here are some more pictures of the background and some plants. The pictures are taken with my cell so please excuse the poor quality . I've made two more ledges with holes in them for planting.

The background is now finished and I will put the plants and the substrate in this wekeend. Hope you've all like it this far

Question for ya, what did you use to texture the background like it is? Is it covered in anything besides paint or did you just paint the foam?

I used i knife to rough up the surfface and then painted it black and the "drybrushed" it with grey
