U. Pietschmanni

I have been looking into u. pietschmanni, and been reading up on them, primarily posts from GU and in the GGA issue about them and in the uroplatus book. Very much usefull information have been reviled and I find them more interrestring as I read on. but I have a question, regarding how are they to keep?

I am keeping U. phantasticus, so I know the primarialy things to keep an eye out on.

I know they arn't the easiest to breed. But for now Im looking more for some information about how you guys are housing them. How do they react in the viv, any special things you have noticed have changed their behavior when setting up a viv?

Let me put it into a more easy layout (hope it is the right word)

- what kind of diamensons are you keeping your u. pietschmanni and how many?
- How have you setup the viv? any kind on branches they favour, besides cork? any plants?
- what themp. are you housing them at, and how is your spraying cycle?
- what kind off light are you useing? (thinking about UVA, UVB tubes)
- Is there any thing that one should be causes about with these aniamls? (not taking the temps. in consideration as this is obiavias. )
- How is your feeding regieme? and powdering the feeders
- how are they to wacth in the viv?
-Have you haved any breeding succes/experiance with these gecko's?

If anyone has anything to aplly feel free. This thread could be a nice "intro" to the species u. pietschmanni for anybody like to start keeping and hopefully have good succes that breeding can be achieved.

If you have any Pictures. Feel free to post them

I had some issues with some fresh imports but I believe all of them had something as they all passed from the same importer and my others are thriving. I currently keep 1.3. They are housed individually in 12x12x18 zoo meds. Once they get the weight on and I feel they are in proper breeding conditions, I will move them to an 18x18x24 zoo med enclosure. They like it a bit dryer, so I do a light misting every night. All the cages have exo terra 5.0s.

I have also found in observing them that my females are much more timid than the male. The male as soon as the lights go out is on the front glass staring right back at me, as soon as the door opens he rushes to the front to see what is going on, or he is attempting to escape, probably the latter. They are quickly becoming my favorite and their colors are quite impressive. Cork bark is a must, I have cork background on 3 of the four sides with branches and cork tubes. They spend the majority of the time on the cork tubes. I even have one that sleeps inside the tube. All in all, go for it, you will not be disappointed. Too bad you didn't live in the United States, I'd hook you up with a baby if they started producing for me, hahaha.

Temps are the same as the rest of my uros, 77 to 79 towards the top and low 70s at the bottom. And the caution I would recommend is keeping them dry, they do not tolerate constantly wet environments.

Hey Robin,
I'm not keeping them yet, my trio comes in tomorrow. But I have cages already set up so I thought maybe I could share some info on them in this thread. However I have not yet used these set ups so I dont know for a fact that they will be successful, although there are some very helpful pietschmanni breeders on here that I'm sure will chime in.

I will be keeping a pair in a 24x18x24, the other female will be added when she's up to size.
In my cage I have a large snake plant that has been trimmed obviously. Two cork flats slanted against eachother on the one wall, a vertical oak branch, which has the bark that resembles cork, and a slanted oak branch. I also have another cork flat on the other wall with moss behind it to try to gear her toward there to lay eggs. I have a thin layer of Eco Earth as a substrate.
I have a UVB light on the cage.

Within the next few months or so hopefully I will be able to contribute more to this thread, but for now thats all I've got. I'll try to get some pictures of my set up for you guys by the end of this week.

Thanks!

Bruce:

Thank you for the information.

I´m looking into getting some unsexed CB, so its kind of a chance with them as I would like at least a couple, but they are awsome so im not in deubt that i will love them even tough the sex ratio turns towards males.

I was thinking about housing them single in some plastik boxes until, they have gained some size to move to a perminant enclousere with real plants, bioaktive substrate and UV-tubes. The enclouseres will be about the same size: 40x40x60(LxWxH) in cm.

Thanks for the tip about decor, The small corktubes, are an excilent idea, could emagine that they would disappear in a viv like that. and with some small plants like pothos would make it even more eye-appeilling:)

And thanks for the headsup on them being kept more dry then the rest of the genius:)
How are they regarding/during feeding? do they hunt like phants? or henkeli, or do they have their own special way?

Yea, It would be nice, if I could get some from you:) maybe when you come to the Hamm-fair:idea:;-)

Rhacoboy:

Every relevant about keeping them is appriciated:)
I can see that the plant would be usefull since its steady, and easie to care for. please let us know how they react to it, and if they use it:)

Would be nice to see some pictures off your setup aswell as the animals:)

Cheers Robin
