Portion Sizes

Hello again everyone...

My Leo, who is a full sized adult, was eating four meal worms a day when I first got him (he was already an adult, this was about two months ago that I purchased him from a previous owner). I would feed him at night and he was pretty quick to eat all four. Lately though he's been eating two or three and leaving the fourth behind. I was leaving the fourth in his calcium dish, and I was under the impression that the two nights I did that he went back later and ate them. However, I found those two worms this morning hiding underneath a little fake plant i have in Balboa's viv.

Should I be concerned that he is eating smaller portions lately? Three I suppose isn't particularly small, and he appears healthy in every other fashion...and he honestly seems more active lately.

I've been checking heat temperatures pretty consistently, everything is in order in that regard.

What are your guys thoughts? Should I be concerned?

I've considered throwing some crickets into his diet to give him some variety, maybe the worms are getting bland for him.

Thats a great idea to mix in crickets to spice up the meal and it will be better for the gecko in the long run.

As for numbers, thats fine for an adult.

In the northern hemisphere its rolling into shorter days, longer nights, and cooler temperatures, reduced feeding is expected. Even though you are maintaining the temps at a care sheet level, the geckos know its time to slow down for winter.

While its not exactly required you might find it interesting to look up brumation.
