I hope some of you can help me, i've had 2.3 U. Milli since last july.
2 females have been laying eggs and have been producing offsping.
the other female was from 2009 so i kept her seperated as well as one of the males. (so i kept, 1,2 in a terrarium, 1.0 in a terrarium and 0.1 in a seperate terrarium).
Few months ago i sold 1 couple, because i thougt i would only be needing a trio and needed the room for other geckos.
After that one of the females died after a month of feeding well but staying at the open during the day, i thought this was a bit odd...but thinking it would be OK as se was still eating etc....but she died on me. I really hated that, didn;t know what i did wrong.
What i did see was a swollen part in the middle of her belly....but i didn't do anything with it.

This morning i found my second female dead with a swollen part of her belly just like the other one. So i opened her up and took some pics, wondering if some of you guys could help me find the cause......

Please take a look at the pictures attachted.

Greetings Marc

I'm no expert, but were you feeding your gecko mealworms? I have read on numerous webpages that this isn't such a good idea as the mealworms are harder for the geckos to digest and can sometimes burrow their way out of their tummies. I'm not sure if this is the case here but looking at the pics.... Like i said no expert, I only just got mine this weekend after loads of research :)

Hope this helps

They have the possibility to eat mealworms, but i never saw them actually eat them. I have heard these kinds of story's but never thought it could be true......will be more carefull feeding mealworms....i think.

Thanks for your reply

Mealworms and super worms CANNOT burrow their way out of a gecko stomach. They can however if fed to delicate digestive systems ie hatchlings or very small geckos cause an impaction and that will lead to sepcis of the bowels. An infection in their system. All though ive never experienced this myself I still am careful with feeding them. Since they were not eating these I don't think this was the problem. I couldn't see the pic with your thread so I dont have an answer to what has caused the deaths. But wanted to assure you that a mealie will not burrow it's way out of anything stomach.

Mealworms are a good food for geckos. Of course you need to give the worms a good diet.
They can not eat their way out of the gecko!!! This is a metropolitan legend!!!

Maggots actually can perforate a lizard intestine, in fact nobody is using them to feed lizards I hope! The brown blackish thing that you see in the pictures is the gallbladder, the pale organ around is the liver the other caudally to the liver is the fat bodies , the intestine should be underneath them.
But this pale liver and fat bodies so big makes me think to a diet that is too fatty and an animal that has been fed too much. Of course this is a suspicion only , as you should examine the organs one by one, and many organs there are not visible and in a serious post mortem samples of the organs should be taken for further tests... by the way what were they fed, how often and how much?
