Hi everyone,

I have got a group of N. amyae juveniles. One of the smallest ones seems not to eat properly. Also this guy is the most restless in the group. I find the same number of crickets in the morning as I put in the previous evening. At the moment I use a simple setup for them (plastic storage container, hide spot, paper towel). Any feeding tricks for babies?

Thanks,

Try using only 1 or 2 appropriately sized crickets at a time. Pinch the rear legs of the crickets, so they can’t jump and aren’t too fast. Before turning out the lights at night, try dimming the lights so it is not pitch black, to simulate evening or dusk. Then remove the hide, so he can’t hide, and then feed. Also, sand is the appropriate substrate for nephrurus, keep separately, and they should of course have a thermal gradient as described in nephrurus care sheets.

I always find my Amyae get nervous and eat less (or don't eat) with lots of crickets tearing around their space. A few at a time seems to work the best even for the adults...though they often get dubias at this size. Not sure if its my individual animals or not but mine have never eaten what I'd call aggressively but still seem to be growing and gaining weight appropriately.

They get more aggressive with eating as they age and when they are fully grown the females are very agressive feeders.
