I recently built my first very nice 10 gallon vert vivarium just a few days ago.
I took a 10 gallon tank and busted out a side.
Flipped it on it's side.
Put a peice of glass on the side (which was orginally the top)
Made a screen top that has 2 levels to hold the basking build up off the screen to they don't get burned while basking.
I took a Zoo Med Forest Tile backgound and drilled shallow holes through for the Bio Vines then stuck aluminum wire through the vine and background and twisted the end to hold it in. Then took silicone and put around the edges and put peat moss over the silicone and that hides the edges of the vine and makes it look formed.
Had to carve a slit in the background for the rock and then I used the silicone and peat moss. Then drilled a hole for my pump line.
Using and Exo Terra Reptiflo 200 pump.
The bottom is a false bottom using egg crate, screen, and zip ties.
The retaining walls and riverbed was carved out of styrofoam then covered in silicone and peat moss. Covered some of the screen with it too.
Took some panneling and tacked it to the canopy and spray painted it gloss black.
Salvaged some furniture legs and plywood and made a stand. Sprayed it gloss black as well.
Using handmade ABG mix for substrate.
ABG mix was developed by the Atlanta Botantical Gardens using peatmoss, sphagnum moss, tree fern fiber, orchid bark, and fine charcoal. It's awesome stuff.
Stuck 2 bromeliads in there and some plastic plants.
For lighting I have a Zoo Med 50w basking bulb, Exo Terra 26w 2.0 full spectum compact foresant in the conopy and a 18" Zoo Med 5.0 floresant strip on the side.
I'm planning on putting springtails in the bottom to keep the viv clean and also getting some live moss and creeping vines. Also a real vine handing down the back instead of a plastic one.
Planning on replacing the glass on the side with a vert convert kit.
Inhabiting the vivarium is a Green Anole, Bahaman Anole, and House Gecko.
I know a lot don't believe in mixing species but they get depressed and won't eat if seperated and they get alond great.
Here's a couple videos that shows a bit of the construstion then the final outcome.
There is a link to the build on Dendroboard in the description of the second video.
