Loose stool in Leopard Gecko

Hey everyone!

Ive had my 2 juvenile leos for a few months now, and they have doubled in size! They are not only bigger, but their tails are thick, they eat like wolves, they are active hunters and they seem to be healthy. Because of all the awful things I heard about mealworms, I was feeding my leos crickets every day for a long time. For the past 2 wks, I have been giving them live mealworms and a few wax worms too, because I was hearing mealworms might not be that bad for them after all. They seem to like the worms as much as crickets so I have been feeding them both to try to add some variety to their diet.

For the past 3-4 days, one of my leos has had loose stool. (please note my leos came from different places and are in no way related). She seems completely healthy but for some slightly watery feces. Is she sick, or was it the food change that caused this? How can I tell for sure? Im having a hard time locating a herp vet in my area, but if things worsen, ill definitely pay the vet a visit, but I would hate to take her to the vet if there isnt anything wrong with her. Any ideas on what I can do anyone?

Thanks in advance!

Easy Solution. Have a vet do a fecal check. If you find something both will need to be given meds. Or for the time being only feed crix.

I will try to get a vet to run a stool sample if it persists, but I think I will ride it out for the time being. Ive been reading that loose stool can be a direct result of changing their food source, and should clear up within a few weeks. Hopefully thats the problem!!!

Just for perspective.... I've changed my leos from roaches to crix to hornworms they have a huge variety. I have never once experienced runny or loose diarrhea from changing their food. A fecal check cost $25 you'd really only need to bring one in, and if you live a little while away from a vet like I do, you can Try to make an arrangement of sending the fecal sample in the mail. I do that everytime and it works great. I just put it in a vial. My vet gave me 100 of them one time. You can also put it in a baggy or a old medicine bottle work really well too.

Vet did a fecal check and it came out clean for both geckos. He examined them and said they were in excellent health. The reason their stool was loose was because of the transition from one food type to another. Wax worms are also known to cause loose stool and I had begun feeding them waxworms as a treat around the time it started. Thanks everyone for your help and I hope my update is helpful to those reviewing this who have a similar problem.

I have feed my geckos meal worms as a staple for a long time and have never had a problem! Just wait it out and see if it was just the change in foods! Keep me updated!
