Today I picked up a Super Hypo possible Tangerine Leopard Gecko. He's gorgeous but the state I found him in was pitiful. He was in a ten gallon tank with a white basking light (*facepalm* THEY'RE NOCTURNAL!), his reptile carpet was SOAKED in feces, there were about 20 pinhead crickets running around his tank, everything was gross and unclean and the stench in there was awful. When I reached in the tank, he freaked out and backed away from me like he was terrified! Needless to say, I tossed down the money (private sale) and took off. I took the poor starving thing home, took him straight out of his tank and put him in one of my ten gallon tanks with nothing in it. He chilled in there while i cleaned out his disgusting tank. I threw out pretty much everything in it, laid down some paper towels and decor and put him back in it. Needless to say, he's much happier. He even ate a few wax worms and meal worms. He wont touch large crickets yet. I dont think he has ever eaten the big ones before. Later on, he allowed me to hold him and explored my couch for a little while. He seems to have adjusted very quickly after a solid meal and a clean tank. As well, I saw him attacking the calcium dish he had in there like he's never had calcium before. he is about 9 months old, and hasn't had calcium? How awful! Look how thin his tail is!
In any case, I am sharing this because I feel as though there are a lot of people out there who honestly do not know how to care for these creatures. To breeders out there, or people who give away their geckos' offspring, PLEASE make sure you explain what the care involves completely!! And if you don't know how to care for them properly, please don't breed them until you do. This family really didn't realize how much they were harming this gecko. Should have googled it before purchasing, and actually taken the time to read the articles...
