Super Hypo Leopard Gecko Rescue Pictures

Today I picked up a Super Hypo possible Tangerine Leopard Gecko. He's gorgeous but the state I found him in was pitiful. He was in a ten gallon tank with a white basking light (*facepalm* THEY'RE NOCTURNAL!), his reptile carpet was SOAKED in feces, there were about 20 pinhead crickets running around his tank, everything was gross and unclean and the stench in there was awful. When I reached in the tank, he freaked out and backed away from me like he was terrified! Needless to say, I tossed down the money (private sale) and took off. I took the poor starving thing home, took him straight out of his tank and put him in one of my ten gallon tanks with nothing in it. He chilled in there while i cleaned out his disgusting tank. I threw out pretty much everything in it, laid down some paper towels and decor and put him back in it. Needless to say, he's much happier. He even ate a few wax worms and meal worms. He wont touch large crickets yet. I dont think he has ever eaten the big ones before. Later on, he allowed me to hold him and explored my couch for a little while. He seems to have adjusted very quickly after a solid meal and a clean tank. As well, I saw him attacking the calcium dish he had in there like he's never had calcium before. he is about 9 months old, and hasn't had calcium? How awful! Look how thin his tail is!

In any case, I am sharing this because I feel as though there are a lot of people out there who honestly do not know how to care for these creatures. To breeders out there, or people who give away their geckos' offspring, PLEASE make sure you explain what the care involves completely!! And if you don't know how to care for them properly, please don't breed them until you do. This family really didn't realize how much they were harming this gecko. Should have googled it before purchasing, and actually taken the time to read the articles...

I wish that everyone had to read at least a pamphlet on how to care for leopard geckos before buying them. Something that goes over the basics of what to feed, how to supplement, what heat and lights, how often to clean, and how they need some good hides.

Craigslist is exactly where I got this one, which I have named 'Eos'. One of my others, Isis, was also found on Craigslist. Its depressing, seeing all these pet stores giving false information.

Thats terrible poor little Eos he really is gorgeous. I'm so glad you bought him and are giving him the love and care he deserves. I really wish people wouldn't buy pets when they can't be bothered looking after them properly from the state of his vivarium its a wonder he's looking as well as he does. I think there should be a law that makes breeders and stores have to give accurate care instuctions for all animals. Breeders that sell animals in that sort of condition shouldn't be allowed to breed animals at all. They make me sick!!!!!!!

His tail doesn't seem too bad considering the circumstances you've described. But I'm surprised he doesn't have some sort of infection from living in feces.

I dont see any signs of infection, but he could have something. I will probably have a fecal sample tested at the vet just to be sure hes healthy.

In better news, I have some updated pics of Eos. Hes so stunning! :)
I haven't had any problems feeding him, and he seems a lot less stressed already. I really like the green in his coloring. Hes so bright! Im second guessing his morph. Once he gets a little bigger, I should be able to tell better.

That is good news. The fecal is a good idea, just in case, but it looks like he just needed an attentive owner and some TLC.

Hahaha 24 hours in a CLEAN tank without feces everywhere probably helped!

Based on the fact that hes 9 mo old and only about 6.5in long tells me the underfeeding probably stunted his growth. He's too small! I'm hoping within a few weeks I'll see some weight gain and maybe some growth lengthwise. My boyfriend and I just adore him. He wandered around our bed and couch today. Seems relaxed around us, and he's quite a curious little gecko!

UPDATE:

Eos went from frightful, skittish and a bit spaztic to one seriously happy and relaxed gecko in just over a week!!! He goes CRAZY for mealworms. He fell asleep with his head resting on his dish a couple times, waking up to lazily munch one down before falling back asleep. We watched him at it for hours while watching TV in the living room tonight. I found him lapping up water from his dish quite a few times too, including this evening. He is not afraid of us at all and gladly allows me to pick him up if I so wish.

Honestly though, he is more fun to watch, stalking around his terrarium in search of food. He has eaten an average of 12 mealworms per night since we got him!!!! Thats one skinny gecko that's about to be HUGE!

I have 3 geckos and he has the best temperament of all of them. I think its because he was constantly stressed before I rescued him so my good treatment, maintenance of the tank and constant supply of food is making him quite cheerful and optimistic.

He's thriving! Im soo thrilled :yahoo:
