Leopard Gecko Terrarium

Hey everyone!

We built two of our Leopard Geckos a lovely 40 gallon terrarium out of styrofoam, grout and mod podge. We painted it ourselves with non toxic acrylic paint, and filled it with fake plants and hides. We aren't at all finished. In fact, the mold inside the tank cracked during a transfer so we may just build a whole new one.

Opinions? Suggestions for improvement since I'm probably rebuilding?

Tank info:
2 moist hides, both on warm side.
Heating pad
1 150 watt ceramic heat bulb
1 150 watt red light
Hot side temp-90/cold side temp-78

The geckos seem quite happy with it, so far.

Thank you!. I like the left side of this tank, with the two layers of rock. I'll be doing that straight across the enclosure this time, to mimic mini mountains of rock. Ive already started making the foundation. When I'm done in a month or two, ill post about it. I learned a lot from making this one, so the next one should be even better, I hope!

That looks really nice. I have never tried the whole multilayer hide thing, but it seems like a great use for all the vertical space that seems to get forgotten. Do your geckos go up to the higher level hide much?

I dont build my hides high for safety reasons, but thet do like to climb as high as they can sometimes and they sit and survey their surroundings. Its adorable

could you tell me how you made the two levels of rock caves? That looks awesome and I'd love to do that to my new 20 long before i get my gecko into it.

I found my instructions on this very webpage:

I just made a different mold out of the styrofoam than they did and painted it differently.

It took FOREVERRR but it was a really fun project and totally worth it.
