Safe to use potting soil from nursery?

if i buy a plant from a nursery ,is it safe to use the soil frm the pot in my terrarium? can i assume that there are good bacteria in the soil to aid in my natural setup? thanks

You always want to knock off any soil from the plants roots and carefully wash the whole plant in the sink before planting it in the vivarium. They use time release fertilizer capsules in the dirt, and also spray the plants down with pesticides, so you want to wash as much of that away as possible.

Honestly it depends on the Nursery..Some are Organic farm grown and do not use any man made chemicals or pesticides..

Unless your 100% percent sure do not assume they do.

Look at the soil..if it has specks of perilite or other man made stuff in it, do not use it.

It is always bests to trim back roots and loosen soil when transplanting plants any ways. So rinse the soil and inspect for harmful hitch hikers like slugs and snails. Trimming the roots will stimulate new root growth and better health for the plants
