When making a viv for leo's, is it best to have a lot of furniture or just the basics

just wondering what the leopard geckos prefer; lots of hiding spaces with things to climb? or, bare space, with just two hides a food and water dish? im not sure what to go for ive seen vivs with lots of ''furniture'' and others with just the basics.
please help, im not sure whats best for my leo, because at the moment in the current setup, i barley ever see him, he just hides away, he has got a lot of hiding spaces and things to climb but i just want to know what is the best habitat.
thanks.

They like to hide, some like to climb. As long as they have the basics of warm hide, moist hide, and cool hide, the rest of what you want to put in there are really for your own enjoyment. It won't hurt them by having a lot of hides, if that's what you are wondering. Plus it's fun to watch them run through tunnels, peek out of hides, or climb mount everest. So just make sure they have the basics, then rest just have fun with it :)

Oh yeah and depending on how long you've had your leopard gecko, it may take awhile (as in weeks) before they get used to you. Once they get used to you, they should feel more comfortable to just lay out in the open. Remember they are nocturnal/crepuscular, so they come out at night mostly.

Most likely your leo is just sleeping in the most comfortable place. In the summer I never see my boy except for at night. He spends all day sleeping in his cool hide. Now that the weather is changing I see him sleep down in his warm hide.
As for the extras, toss some things in and if you see him exploring them later at night. If so I'd leave them in and say that it's a good thing for him to exercise on. I recently put together a custom background into my leos tank and I've seen him crawl straight up the side. They can be quite goofy with the things you give them!
