Tokay enclosure size observations

I wanted to share my observations with people about Tokay enclosure sizes. I currently have 4 different sized enclosures that I keep Tokays in. They are...

30 x 30 x 45 (hatchlings)
45 x 45 x 60
46 x 60 x 60
45 x 60 x 90

Out of all of these enclosures I have found the 45 x 45 x 60's the best size for adult Tokays. Common sense would say that this is too small for such a large gecko but having tried several different Tokays in each enslosure Ive found better colours, feeding response and overall health when kept in "smaller" enclosures.

The worst was the 45 x 45 x 90's and I even found my most confident Tokays hiding with dark colouration when kept in this size enclosure. I also noticed an overall dip in health.

Im interested to hear other people's opinions/experiences with different enclosures as my findings have confused me somewhat. I would have expected a bold and confident gecko like the Tokay to thrive in a larger environment but all my experience points towards them being happier in smaller enclosures.

I'd also like to point out that all my Tokays are kept separate so these findings and dimensions only apply to single occupancy.

just a question but is that in cm also are you mostly dealing with captive bread tokays or wild caught?

Yup it's in cm. I keep 20 all in all. They are a mixture of LTC and CB.

Just one word from my side:
I strongly recommend 65 g as a minimum for adults, besser 100g or bigger.

I keep my pair in a 75x56x156 cm enclosure. They aren't shy at all and will come out if I open the sliding doors because they seem to ''know'' they will get some roaches or crickets.

Can you give a more detailed description of the ''dip in health'' you experience when the animals are put in large enclosures?

I find that mine seem to enjoy and utilize every inch of space that they have available to them. Their colors, shyness, appetite, etc seem to depend more on the personality of the individual gecko than on the size of the enclosure.
