is it bad for my gecko to hide under the paper towel substrait all day? It is scaring me because all I can see is his/her leg or part of it's tail and there is a spot it can get under because we had a styrofoam rock wall that we took away because they got behind it and was in the weirdest positions with its arms.

Do you have plenty of hiding spots in your viv? Plants, cork rounds, anything like that? It's not bad for them to be hiding, especially during the day and while they're getting settled in to a new viv. If they have different places to hide and are choosing to burrow under the substrate anyway, I wouldn't be concerned.

welcome to gu. i would suggest using tile for substrait. they cant get under it. that is what i use, and ive never had a problem. just dont use the stick on kind it has chemicals in it that is harmful to geckos. its easily cleaned and looks much nice than papper towels. also its cheap.

Crested geckos are arboreal typically, and if you don't have these items off the floor of the enclosure, they might not use them. Be sure to have sticks and plants higher in the cage and you'll see your gecko tending to hang out more in an elevated position.

I have some suction cupped soap dishes with silk leaves in them that many of my geckos enjoy sleeping and hiding in during the day.
I have a few that still prefer hiding under their paper towels on the ground, though... and some with use both.
My advice is just to make sure to offer high up hiding and sleeping places but don't stress if your gecko happens to be one that enjoys sleeping on the ground for whatever reason.
