Not shedding in humid hide?

The past few times Lani has shed, he hasn't done so in his humid hide. The humid hide is a plastic ice cream container with a hole in the side and ample amounts of wet paper towel, especially when I can tell he's about to shed. Instead, he's shed under his favorite piece of curved bark. I've tried putting wet paper towel underneath it, but it doesn't hold the moisture in well enough and poor Lani ends up with little pieces of dried skin on his face.
Any idea why he doesn't want to shed in the humid hide? Is it possible it's not dark enough? I did recently cut the hole a bit bigger as he's gotten a bit wide these past few months, is it possible he doesn't feel secure enough?
Is there any way to encourage him to go in it?

It's possible he does not feel secure if it's not a dark colored container. Do you have the shed box closer to the warm end? They won't be too excited about laying in a moist hide if it's cold. If none of these apply then maybe he just prefers to shed elsewhere. They do not always use their shed container.

I've noticed that once they're actually pulling the old skin off, they really move around, rubbing their face on surfaces to start the process. Mine like to be close to a rough surface to help start the peel. Maybe put a rock in/around the moist hide to help.
