One more hello to all ppl here !
I must say realy nice forum with bunch of quality information.
I am sorry for opening a new theard on tokay breeding, but i cant find answer on some questions .

First off all, how hard is to male and female find a interest on each other?
I heard on my local forum it is the main problem on breeding this gecko.
I noticed that when my male start to make a mating call, female is full focus on him ( They are in separate terrarium right now)

Second question is, how much femail has to be in weight ? (150g or so ?)
I had read some ppl say 150, some say 200and some say 300..

And one more question , how to know when they are ready to merge them in same terrarium.

And do you have some advice for me, or some hints.

U can see pictures in my album , both male and female.
Regards and thank you ,
Aleksandar

(I'm sorry for my English ,but i try best i can ;) )

Hello,

It is breeding season right now so if you want to pair them, now is the time to do it.

Most wild females will breed at 50 grams. I like something closer to 70g but it depends on the Tokay. Some of my Calico females will never get that big while the patternless greens and granites can be 150-200 grams easy.

Tokay glue eggs to vertical objects like cork bark or slate. You can leave the eggs in to hatch in the enclosure if you want. They will be good, protective parents of their young. Just be sure to pull the juveniles before they are sexable.

Female Tokay do not like their furniture moved around. Disrupting the enclosure will stop her from laying eggs. Set them up so that spot cleaning is easily done without moving the bark, slate or other items that they hide in or on.

If your pair produce continuously, pull the male after 6 or 8 eggs to give her a rest.

I hope that helps, have fun and good luck,

Michael

Tokay Gecko Eggs

I have a question about Tokay Gecko Eggs. Will the female lay one batch of 2 eggs for every time they mate? Or will she lay 3 or 4 sets of eggs even though she only mated once? The question is if she has laid 3 sets of eggs and you remove the male, will she stop laying eggs?

So far as I've seen, you get a pair of eggs per mating. If someone else has a more definitive answer, I'd like to hear it as well.

Here's what I've observed. If a female comes in gravid, say from another collection, she will lay one or two eggs usually within 30 days of her arrival. Of coarse new imports may do the same.

What I have also seen with new imports is that they go through 90 to 120 days of acclimation here before they are considered for pairing. I've had several females drop an egg or two within 30 days of being paired. Meaning, she was holding out and then dumped the previously fertilized egg(s) after she was introduced to the new male.

(Side note: The new male will eat the offspring if it is not his when it hatches.)

So, I'll incubate those eggs outside of the enclosure. In the case of the patternless greens that we have had here, they all seem to continue egg production as long as they are paired together. The danger is that you will exhaust the female. She literally will die trying.

Once we've pulled the male, there is always a good chance we'll see another set of eggs. But after that, I've not seen more.

Good Luck!
