Crested Gecko Diet Texture

How thick or thin do you keep your cgd? For those with geckos over 6 months old. My crestie doesnt eat much, ( i think it's my cold house, temps in his tank have been 64-70 F) and I can't tell if he would prefer it thicker or thinner. He does eat, I see poop about 3 times a week. If it's to runny it goes flat and dries out. If it's too thick it's a sticky clump. I have to change it every 24 hours, otherwise it's not lickable. I only put about a 1/2 tsp in there and I feel like I waste almost all of it. I am hoping come warmer weather he will get a bigger appetite. He is 8 months. I last weighed him at 7 months and he was 12.5 g. Should I keep the blue heat light on longer so it can get up to 70 plus? My humidity cycle is great!

Mine like it pretty thick better than runny. But one of my guys is just a pain and doesn't like to touch it either way. But you say it's not lickable? Does that mean it's dried out? Cuz as long as I keep the humidity high enough it won't dry out. As for the temp mine are around mid 70s.

After 24 hours its not lickable. It's dried out or a really sticky. Some people say they can leave the gcd in for 48 hours, I can't. I think it might be cuz the tank is on the cooler end of what geckos like. I'll see what happens next week since it will be in the 70's here. Its usually in the 50's.

I have an auto temp which keeps it at 75. I'm loving that. I'm still playing with the humidity though. I'm trying to maintain it about 70. But i had to go through a fogger which was too strong for a 25 gal tank, made a new lid from plexy glass which worked perfect.

It could very well be the temperature, but that's nothing to worry about if he's healthy.

All of mine get a winter cooling period during the time the furnace is warming the house. It can range from 68F down to 63F for hours at a time, so the geckos eat less. From approximately mid-December until late-March, I only feed them every 5 days, adults and juvies (no younger ones at this time of year). They'll eat all they want the first night or two, then won't touch any food for a few days. Five day feeding intervals in winter have worked for mine. The older Rhacs have been going through that routine for about 15 years without a problem. There's no problem with weight loss, they've just slowed down like they would in nature.

There's no need to replace the food daily. If he has a chance to eat it the first night or two, he can go another one or two before needing to eat again during the time that the temperature is in the range you mentioned. When it warms up in spring and summer, increase feedings, but for now he'll probably do just fine eating a wee bit every few days.
