Youtube Gecko Rant

I look on youtube sometimes just to see what people do with there crestie setups. it has just been making me madder. You get these people (alot of kids to, whose parents must not care) who post care videos and they are completely bad and wrong. Im glad other people reply and tell them their setups suck. I just saw one with a kid who says you can fit up to 8 juvies in a 8x8x12, he's getting a female to put in with his male for that size. He feeds only mealworms. There were two fake suction cup plants and one stick. He says they need 80-85 F degrees. So I gave him a bad comment back and told him his gecko may live but will not thrive. He responds telling me he's done this for a year and a half and he knows what he's doing. Well Ive been doing this only 8 months and my crestie is much better off. You dont get animals because they are just cool to have, you get them because you LOVE them and want to care for them. Ok, just had to get it off my mind. Some videos are great but I think I should stop looking at youtube!

Kristy,

I agree on saying things when an apprentice keeper does it all wrong.
But I can tell you that leaving aggressive comments or be mad at him won't help. Being kind and patient is always more efficient with these people. Just my 2 cents, though I understand that made you mad. Believe me, I have some professional experience with pedagogy ;)

I wouldn't think telling someone a crestie will live but not thrive is aggressive comment. Didnt think my post would lead to that judgment. Im a 45 year old mom with a 12 year old. It just urks me that parents allow children to get pets and have no idea what their children are getting into, and choose not to make sure the pet is cared for. I've worked at an animal hospital for 16 yrs, I have 4 cats, 2 gerbils, 5 fish tanks and a crestie. Ive done cat rescue for 25 yrs. I have compassion. Again, we dont have pets because they are cool, we have them because we love them, have compassion and want to care for them. I just thought people would agree with that. Sorry, guess my "rant" as I called it, brought on the wrong impression.

i have not seen the exact vid u are talking about but have seen many where the people do not know what they are talking about with their geckos. i to get really mad but even if u leave them a nice comment explaining wat they are doing wrong they take it the wrong way.

"aggressive" was maybe not the right word. Let's say things said on a more friendly and smooth manner tend to be more efficient ;)

Kristy, you have a good heart! I think your experience working with animals makes you unique from the general population, which thinks that animals (except maybe dogs & cats) are throw-away toys for their kids. Also, some people will always think they are right and instead of researching further, will react to any comment or suggestion with hostility.

YouTube comments are usually the wasteland of humanity and you can really lose some brain cells arguing or reading what's on there!

I applaud your efforts, though!
