feeding phoenix worms

Having ordered phoenix worms for the first time I was wondering how best to feed them to my Leo. Do you just place them in a bowl? Sorry if this is old just not sure, but that is what I think you would do.

I originally bought these for my bearded dragon but now feed them to my geckos too. I put them in a little cup w/ water for a few mins as i was told they can absorb some of the water and be good for hydration. Then i pat them dry with a paper towel and place them in a small shallow glass dish. If theyre wet they can get out but if you dry em real quick they cant climb. Or you can just put em in a shallow bowl and be done with it =)

I personally had a really hard time getting my geckos to eat them. They would have one or two, but for some reason they stopped after that. Good luck!

Mine will usually take them but when she wont ill put them in a cup with waxworms and shake them around. usually they will have the scent of waxworms and my gecko will gobble them up like crazy.

Not all geckos eat from a dish. You may have to place them in front of your leo.

Our worms should arrive today! So glad to see this post, as we have been wondering the same thing. Hoping they move enough to entice Speckles to eat them AND that he likes them :) It would be nice to be able to add these to his cricket diet.

Good luck with them. Many geckos simply refuse to eat them. With all of the different species that I keep, I couldn't get any of them to eat phoenix worms.

I was just reading through the forums some more and saw that people also have said some geckos pass them through whole, which probably defeats all nutritional value and is just gross. Not sure my eleven year old is up to poking pin holes in them to aid digestion. I guess the nice thing is we ordered a trial size and only paid for shipping so if Speckles hates them, there's the silver lining :)

Phoenix Worms

I guess I am one of the lucky ones, Corwin gobbles them right up! It says on the tub (and it's true!) if you'd like them to wiggle a little more warm them up in your hands first. I usually feed the worms first as they are slight less "exciting" for her to catch. I imagine going from hunting fast crickets to slow worms may be less inticing. Well that was fun! We fed Speckles the worms tonight and he ate them right up! They are way more wiggly than mealworms and caught his interest immediately. (Watching him stalk his food is so entertaining!) The first one he bit, dropped and looked at my son like "what is this?" Then it wiggled, he snatched it up and then ate the rest of them. Excited to add these to his diet!

Zuko loves them too, they don't even have to be moving anymore/at all for him to eat it. Once he sees one he goes straight for it, even faster then when I see him go for crickets!
