Silkworms?

Hey all!
I bought a medium size quantity of silkworms and their food from Mulberry farms.
They were great for a week- Then more then half of them died, just turned to a molded mush. I would say around 20 of them, everytime I looked 5 more would die. They seemed to have disintegrated into to mush! Also, there was a spiderweb like material that was difficult to get off of them and my leos ended up eating some of that web when I couldn't get it off.
Is this how the silkworms normally are? Kind of a nuisance! Should I have kept them in the fridge? because the instructions from mulberry farms says they dont need refridgeration!

The food has to be refrigerated and everything has to be kept very clean. Wash your hands very well when you are touching the worms. Wipe the bin you are putting the worms in with alcohol and let it dry before putting the worms in. They don't make webs, it's just silk.
