Phelsuma lineata breeding

Hi,

Well I have had my male lieata elanthana for a year now and the female since June last year. They went into a new cage at christmas. I reduced their lighting hours for about three months then increased the photoperiod back to summer hours again. I thought this should trigger them to breed. But they have not this year. The female is cb and is 2 years old wheras the male was a wc. They both get on great and are always together in the viv. i am not overly concerned about them not breeding but since them being vary scarce in the country it would be great to have babies.

Is there anything I can try over the winter in regards to temps etc?

Any input would be appreciated. :D

Umm I tend to reduce my lights down from about fourteen hours to eight .I am fortunate enough to have a separate reptile room and reduce the temperatures to a high of 75f in the day and an ambient of 65f at night.

I would guess that yours are kept in your bedroom,so I dont think that the temperature varients are as great as you think between the seasons.

The temps change around 5f which isnt alot really. Mine went from lights being on 7.30am-7pm then now 7.30am till 9pm. And yep they are kept in my room with my chameleons and other geckos.

Would a smaller photoperiod over winter helped?

Its difficult in a centrally heated house but I would say if you can get a greater variant in the temperatutes between seasons you will have a better chance.
I would also reduce the daylight hours in the winter by three or four hours.i know that these are greater ranges than in the wild but it seems to work for my geckos.

I reduce my winter hours to 7 hrs a day, and turn my heat lights down. Leave windows and doors open during night to cool down to 55-65F. I spray lightly once or twice a week in the winter. I feed less insects and more calcium filled fruit purees.
Summer time. 12-14 hr lights, basking spots around 90F. Spraying every day or every other day heavy sprays. More insects and fruit puree once sometimes 2 times a week.
This is what I have done. And has worked well for me. Sometimes it just takes awhile for them to start breeding. I would do heavy misting everyday to get them in the mood.
