Calcium w/ or w/o D3?

I was just wondering what the difference is if you have D3 in your calcium or not.
I would love some chemical explanations as well as some biological as to why one should instead have calcium powder in the cage WITHOUT D3 than with?

Please maybe even pros and cons?
Thank you!

D3 is what helps like night geckos example the leopard gecko digest its food because they do not get D3 from the sun it is need in the vitamin that their food is dusted with to be able to digest properly some do not need D3 but this is the animals that need the uv light like my bearded dragon

a leo needs cal w/d3 on the food 2 times a week and a multi vit 2 times a week they also need cal w/o d3 in the enclosure at all times

D3 is needed to absorb the calcium, but D3 can be overdosed. So that is why you leave plain calcium (no D3) in the tank, so that the leo does not overdose.

Because you want to dust with multivitamins as well as calcium with D3, it's a lot easier if you purchase one of the all-in-one supplements like Repashy Calcium Plus or Zoo Med Reptivite with D3. Then you dust your feeders with these multivitamins 2-3x a week, and your gecko will have plenty of calcium, D3, and multivitamins.

Since you control their D3 intake via dusting schedule, you won't have to worry about overdosing. As with suggested above, some will leave a bottle cap or dish of pure phosphorous-free calcium without D3 in the tank.
