Seperating then reintroducing P. laticauda?

After much consideration I've decided my first day geckos are going to be P. laticauda, and I want to get a pair and try my hand at breeding. One of the shops in town has a bunch of wild caught ones, which I assume are juveniles because they look kinda small and about 10 of them are crammed into the 18" cube exo terra.

The tank they'll be living in eventually is 5'x2.5'x2.5' but I haven't finished modifying and landscaping it yet so it isn't ready, and seeing as they're WC I'd rather quarantine them in something smaller and away from the other lizards anyway.

So my question is once they're done quarantine and the big tank is ready would it be better to put both of them in together and condition the female for breeding while they're together, or should I maybe add the female, condition her for breeding, then add the male? Or will that cause issues with territoriality? The way the tank will be set up will make rearranging it impossible.

I have never had any issues keeping male and female laticauda together. If you are going to get geckos that don't appear healthy I would keep them seperate in a different enclosure than the final planned one until you feel they are ready for breeding.

If your pet store is keeping that many in one enclosure maybe you should buy from somewhere else?

As far as introductions go, I would put the female in first and the male within a couple minutes. No more than 5 minutes after.

I have not had 2 males together, but I do know females typically don't like each other. Like I said, never had a problem pairing them though.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice!

They all appear healthy, they've had them for about 3 weeks now and they all look fat and healthy. Where I live you don't see day geckos very often, and I think this is the first time I've seen P. laticauda here. These guys are also pretty reputable, but I don't know what to say about the cramped quarters. Although so far no one seems to have any damage from it.
