U. phantasticus Laying Behavior Question

Hey there! I've been pairing my phantasticus together for about two to three months now, and have witnessed several copulations. This morning I noticed my female with her back end under some leaf litter, as if she were going to lay. After she left the spot later in the morning, I checked for eggs, and there was nothing. My question is, is it usual for a female to test various locations for oviposition before they lay, or might her behavior have been unrelated to oviposition? I've never seen her on the tank floor before, let alone under leaf litter. Anyhow, any help and first hand experience would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Cheers,
-Matt

She could have been looking for a spot she liked. If she was about to lay she might have felt disturbed by something and abandoned laying. Did you move anything around her or bother her in anyway?

leaf litter is actually a pretty common area for deposition, maybe shes just getting ready and looking for that perfect spot

I probably did disturb her. I couldn't find her in the cage at first so I opened it up to take a peak and noticed her on the floor. After that point I left her alone, but perhaps it was too late. We'll see what happens tonight, fighters crossed.

The signs you've mentioned make me think she might have laid eggs. Might be worth digging around a little.

I agree. Many people have noted that geckos will usually copulate again after the female lays eggs.

I'd check around a bit. The eggs are very small, so they aren't the easiest to find.

Good luck,

I did a really thorough search and turned up nothing. Very curious. I'll be very happy when/if she does finally lay though. Thanks for the help guys!
