In an extensive, highly useful, and what must be a now famous post by gbhil on creating naturalistic vivs, he mentions using aquarium heaters in the water of the false bottom to increase heat and humidity. This sounds like a good idea, has anyone done it in practice?
A few questions:
Size/wattage of heater for a 12x12x18 inch viv? 18x18x24 inch?
You would need to keep the false bottom full with water at all times or risk cracking the heater, right? Would filling the space with aquarium gravel improve the situation? (I've never bothered with hydroballs in my false bottoms)
How much does this practice actually raise temp and/or humidity? Worth the investment?
Any other potential complications?
