i was recently given a cave gecko while picking up some kenyan sand boas. he was part of a trade, but very very sick. he has mbd pretty badly. his left front arm is about completely crippled and he even has some kinks in his back. ive never had experience with these before, but have kept a ton of other reptiles. other than the lower temperatures, what is the best way to keep one? i have him in a 6 qt tub, he is still quite small. has paper towels and a nice sized gladware hide lined with moist paper towels. he also has water and food bowls along with a cap full of plain calcium. i have mealworms coated with calcium with d3 in the bowl right now, the guy i had gotten him from tried crickets, but he never ate them. probably because he cant move well enough to hunt. ill be picking up liquid calcium at the pharmacy tomorrow. i have nursed plenty of mbd reptiles back to health, but never a cave gecko. would anyone know if i should use liquid calcium with, or without d3? how often should i put it on his nose so he can lick it off? once or twice daily?
please nobody say "take him to the vet" as he was a free rescue and the vet will just say the same thing i just mentioned, he has mbd and needs liquid calcium and will then prescribe this expensive reptile brand stuff which is the same as the stuff i get at the pharmacy. been there, done that.
i would post a picture, but for some reason it denied my post.
