Moving Advice?

We are moving 5 hours away and I need advice on how to move my leopard gecko and gargoyle gecko.
Do I need to put them into small containers or can I leave them in their enclosures?

What I did when I moved was take everything out, in case during the move it breaks stuff.
Put the geckos in a Glad Type Container with small air holes for ventilation but not so big as they can escape.

When moving tanks Take everything out so nothing gets broken during the move.

Alternatievly you can use Kritter Keeper type containers.

Oh I missed the 5 hours away part, is your car going to be heated?

If not I WOULD BUY the boxes they ship geckos in, and the styrofoam. Along with some 24 hours heater packs.

Look up on youtube how to ship a gecko and copy that as best you can.

The car will be heated and it has heated front seats as well if needed. I might grab some hand warmers just in case. I'll probably use a 6qt Sterilite tub for one and a Kritter Keeper for the other if I do take them out of their tanks. The gargoyle's tank is planted and doesn't really have any loose decorations, but the leopard gecko tank is tile substrate with some decorations I'll have to remove either way.

I would only add one thing: test the water in the new place before giving to any of your geckos. I found out the hard way that this can kill your geckos, if the water quality is not good and you don't realize it.

OH YEAH! If your water is not a good quality it should either be filtered or have been treated.
I used Reptisafe, but since I LIVE in Ny waters good here and I FILTER it either way.

reptisafe won't fix everything, it just removes some of the metals and chlorine. our water here is good, but my cold-water pipes going to the kitchen are bad and need to be replaced. I lost 3 geckos right after moving and thought it was the stress of moving, then had my water tested because it tasted very slightly "off" - that one set of pipes is bad.

so my geckos now get filtered and reptisafed'd water; it was a really sucky way to learn that lesson.
