My two girls!

Hey, so a long while ago I put up a few photos of my 2 Tokays. Thought one might be a male, the other hoping a female. Today I did an enclosure cleaning and decided FINALLY to use the glove idea to hold them(and by the way, my heart is STILL racing). I should have 2 girls.

My only question is if in the off season the boys vents will still be sticky, or if this only happens in the breeding season. Anyone?

I'll post a couple photos later

Adult males are sticky year round. If you can get some good, well lit close-up vent shots the 'panel of experts' will chime in on their observations!

Remember just because you do not have eggs does in the first year does not mean much. Some wild caught Tokay will still wait until season, (January is the beginning), until the breed and stop in early spring. I have several pair like this.

Some others will breed around the clock it seems, 24/7/365.:yahoo::coverlaugh::banana::blushing:

Thanks! They both felt VERY smooth. I don't want to pull them back out to get photos either. They both were pretty pissed off at me:shock:

The older one is over 2 years and the younger is around 2.

At the moment I am not worried about breeding them. It isn't easy finding CB tokays in general, esp adults. And my Phelsuma and the new frogs are keeping VERY busy.

Yeah, there's only about 6 of us it seems in the states that have any CB Tokay available. The good news is that most of us visit this site and forum fairly regularly so when you are ready, just place a wanted ad.

Good luck!

I bet there aren't many because WC Tokays are so available and SOOO cheap. My friend in FL has a trio of WC adults that breed like crazy for him. I bet he has around 20+ babies-subadults right now!!

I know most of the experts on here(like yourself!) seem to breed all the morphs. Do you actually breed just regular ones too?

Thanks again for the help!

Yeah, there's no real income from Tokay to justify a business model built around them. And this is true for many imports right up to the day they are no longer available because of a country closing it's export or other international restrictions. Just try to find me a Gekko smithi here in the US.

If Indonesia should close, or restrictions come into play, then I hope to have enough Tokay to provide a viable source for domestically bred animals, normals and morphs.

And yes, I have plenty of normal Indonesian, a few Vietnamese and a couple of Malaysian type Tokay in our Hoard.

There's quite a population of wild tokay in florida. I doubt that we'll every really run out of normal tokays to purchase even if the asian countries closed their doors to exporting.

Yeah, I have some from Key West too. The only thing that effects the mainland Florida population is the occasional freak freezes like a couple of years ago that wiped out most of the pet trade reptiles.

That freeze boosted imports ever since because of the lack of available FL collected animals.

I believe my male is a Florida captive. If the story I got was correct, he was captured from the side of a Pizza Hut.

That's funny. But it make sense. Like tree frogs and toads, they'll hang out near big lights to catch bugs.

It's a weird story. I got him from a girl on a forum who rescued him from a friend who captured Galactus. The original capturer thought it was an escaped pet. Took him to an unnamed chain pet store, who told her that it was a crested gecko. How anybody could mistake a tokay for a crestie is still a mystery to me. The girl then set him up as a desire and was feeding baby food. This is when the girl I got him from took him from the original girl and joined the forum where I gave her the husbandry breakdown for a tokay. She nursed him back to health then when it came time for her to graduate, she couldn't take him with her so she shipped him to me.

Yeah, my collection started with all morphs. But, over time I've 'acquired' several normals that were hard luck cases, etc.

One very black Tokay with just orange spots from Florida caught my attention. This male was just laying in the bottom of a 10 gallon with a paper towel.

I sent the girl $30 plus FedEx shipping money plus I sent her the box and a heat pack.

Well 11 months later and dozens of emails and various reasons, I still do not have this guy. I figured it died and she spent the money. Oh well, write this one off as a charity donation.

She moves to one of the Florida Keys and is catching Tokay and Day Gecko to supplement her income I guess. She works a deal with the pet shop that is buying her captures, and I get a pair shipped in from him that were living wild on Key West.
