Tokay Gecko Caging

Hi there, I was considering getting a 55 gal. from the famed $1 per gallon sale and getting a pair of tokays... but then decided on one instead of a pair and have a few housing questions.

Can 1 adult tokay thrive in a 20 gal. long converted to tall?

Do they do well in planted vivs? If so what plants and such are best?

Thanks in advance

Yeah, parental logic XD LOL. Starting to look at williwmas blue cave geckos or a corn snake

OK? We had a parent buy their daughter a Tokay morph from us last year. It just goes to show, "different strokes for different folks".

Lygodactylus williamsi are really cool little gecko which are imported from a really small spot in the world. If you can get them captive bred, that would be much better.

Make sure getting and keeping fruit flies are good at your house and regardless of what you have read on the internet, do not keep more than one female together with a male. They are highly territorial and will eventually kill each other off in the typical sized enclosure. Do your research on this one first.

Cave gecko are easy to keep and crickets are easy to find at the local pet store chain.

Now the corn snake could be interesting given that one, it is of course a snake and two, you'll need to make sure live or frozen rodents are acceptable around your house.:yikes:

Good luck!

lol, you think i'd get a WC reptile  lol, ur funny :nana: I also wouldn't consider getting anymore than a male and female anyway as they are a bit pricy especially when it comes to CB, so that'd eliminate that issue. Plus when it comes to my reptiles i'm on my own as far as funding goes.

The mice thing isn't a problem either as my bearded dragon gets the occasional pinkie or two...

Now to get around the "we have enough pets" phrase. lol

Oh! and I couldn't find much of anything online whilst researching there guys so I assume not, since they are a bit on the smaller size, but cave geckos can't be fed on dubia roaches can they?

"Enough" is only relative to how many I can provide excellent quality of life to as a captive reptile.

Mine is about 500 at this point. I can still remember when 50 was a lot.

Good luck!

Your best bet is to show that higher authority how well you can manage extra responsibility. Take on an additional chore without that authority asking you to or demanding it. Do it well and with regularity.

If you are on your own as far as funding goes, and the higher authority is okay with you adding another enclosure you may consider putting together a very nice one bit by bit.

If additional chores are few and far between, better grades in school seems to work well in the minds of most authority figures.

If you happen to be a high performer in school already, ask yourself what is it your authority figure has advised you in the past; often authority figures really do know whats best in so far as the who, what, when, and where in your life should be.

In the end, authority figures are just that, respect their wishes, but if you take up a new chore, improve your grades, or take some advice to heart, keep up with it even if the authority figure remains against your choice of gecko. Your doing it to gain more respect, the secondary gain might just be an okay from that authority figure.
