Please help, not sure what this is!

Hey everyone,

I took one of my females out to get some pics today and noticed this. The gecko had a lesion in the same area a few months ago, but this had healed up. I suspected the lesion came from too low humidity, which has since been raised. They live in a large planted tank, and, since I am gone a lot, my family must have been careless in keeping it watered. I have since placed a humidifier on the tank that runs nightly so that the geckos don't get dry. It seems to be working for all intensive purposes.

However, today I noticed the gecko has these reddish scales where the wound had been. It appears the actual scales are red, rather than something over them like a fungus or anything. I have separated her until I can figure this out. Could this be the healed wound after subsequent sheddings? Does anyone know what this is? I am worried about my poor girl, I thought she had healed all up by now. Looking for replies ASAP before I have to leave town again!

Thanks,
TS

No males, just three other females. Historically they have had no problems, and they have been kept together for about two years now. The tank is large and I don't think that is the issue.

It may be that it is irritated, so I think I will be letting her have a sauna separately tonight. The wound part itself looked fine beforehand, it is just the coloring now that is odd.

looks like normal scarring. over time (and I'm talking months to years) the red will fade, but you will probably always see some red stippling.

one of my girls was bit in that same spot by a cage-mate before I got her, and still has a handful of reddish freckles in that area, although I've had her a year and a half and the wound itself was long ago.

it sounds like your humidity issues are fixed, but if you see any other lesions you might have a bully. most female cresties get along OK given enough space, but sometimes you get a girl who's just a jerk.

this is my JoJo. it's hard to see in this pic, but behind the "bars" on top of her head you can see a little reddish. those are the old scars. they're smaller than dal spots and are very slowly fading away. she also has some behind her ear on that side of her head.
