Some of my new bamboo halves...

Just thought that I'd give these a try as vertical hides for some of the tokays. Since they're not complete tubes, they'll be easy to look behind for eggs and give the tokays a place to hide without the hassles of trying to get them out of a tube while still giving a nice naturalistic look...

And would you perchance happen to know where people may purchase said bamboo halves in which you have so lovingly displayed in your pictures? ;-)

Seriously though. Let us know how they get on : )

I do indeed know where to purchase previously mentioned bamboo halves :p

I think they'll work well just sort of leaning diagonally in the vivs.
I don't mind full tubes, but these might be easier for viewing the animals and/or eggs.
We'll see how well they work.

Some one's been busy in the tool shed.

It's a shame we can't get 8" wide tropical bamboo. I'd never need bark again.

I'd probably line up several of yours in a row leaning an inch or two off of the roofing slate. I might consider tacking a strap across the top just to keep my big males from knocking the bamboo halves all over the place.

Some of my guys are big enough to move the slate during mating sessions. :blushing::fight:Nothing like a slate 'headboard' against glass! :fight::blushing:

These particular ones were actually for a customers Uroplatus collection. But they'd work well for pretty much any arboreal geckos other than maybe the biggest of leachies. They'd be particularly good for phelsuma and other day geckos, cresteds and gargs, etc. But I cut some for my tokays and they seem to like them as well. I've had none knocked over so far. It's a matter of proper placement. They look nice in a naturalistic viv. These are 3-4" wide which is plenty wide for most tokay. They're not meant to replace slate or cork or tubes, simply to add to them in a naturalistic setting. There's a lot to be said for the benefits of a varied and enriched environment.

That's pretty cool!
