Just a pic that I took tonight of one of the patternless blue, green, and yellow babies. It's not the best of pictures since it's hard for the camera to focus on something inside a dark bamboo tube! But he's doing well and eating like a champ. Can't wait until he starts showing some adult colors, but currently he's either just solid light gray, or solid purplish black.

Haha! Not to be confused with the exclusive, super new, ultra purple, X morph!!! HAhaha!
(Funny how it looks exactly the same though isn't it?)

Well the Purple X is from a Patternless Emerald/Olive and it seems to have sort of a blue head which gives it it's purple hue some of the time.

I've seen purple Tokay offered in the export bidding circles out of Indo. They can look anywhere from black to purple to dark olive/gray.

I've got a female Purple X coming soon so we'll see.

Oh yeah, nice lil' Tok!

I'm not going to say anything bad about anyone's geckos. Certainly don't want to get in the middle of trash talking. But I've seen an awful lot of questions about the "purple X morph" go unanswered about them, all the pics of them I have seen look like nothing more than a patternless blue or green in dark phase, and I've yet to hear of anyone proving that they're genetically any different or unique in any way. I say that the proof is in the pudding. When someone can show me that it's been truly proven out to be a different genetic morph than what we already have out there, I'll believe it. My personal opinion otherwise is that its nothing more than a marketing technique.

OK, so for the betterment of all Tokay enthusiasts everywhere, I'm getting one from them soon. I'll be able to do some decent photos and observations as to color, etc. They are not the first to report having a purple looking Tokay.

From what I've seen from them is that they do seem to be consistently producing these guys from the same pair. They intend to line breed them to help solidify the color. This is typical selective breeding for color. It's way to early to tell whether the genetics will be consistent. But I'll play.

Several Tokay have an iridescence to them. It's what gives the Powder Blues and Powder Greens their cool powder look. My Super Reds have this to some extent as well depending on the light. Very much like a Rainbow Boa. A blue iridescence combined with a Patternless Olive or other green Tokay could give it a purple look.

Again we'll see.

Many tokays have a purple color to them when they're dark. No big surprise there. And the patternless trait we already know breeds true. What I want to see proven is that they're actually different genetically than the patternless blues or green...ie if you breed one to a patternless blue or green, if it's a different trait, you should get normals. Until that's actually proven out, I'm not buying into the hype. And like I said, they've refused to answer even basic questions about the background of this "new" trait" multiple times. So that alone makes me think that there's something fishy about it. I've been in this hobby way to long to buy into the hype until someone proves it out. Everyone's looking to make a quick buck these days and very quick to call things whatever they want to in order to make people think they're buying something special or unique. I've seen multiple pics now of this supposed new morph and every one of them looks the same as any other patternless morph in dark phase. I have yet to see anything that looks even remotely purple in its light phase. But, like you say...we'll see.

I agree, I'm no fan of the "you name it new color morph" just so you can claim naming rights and try to sell it for big bucks.

The average person would be surprised at how many normals I got in as imports that were sold as a morph, or fancy, or whatever, and were not. In this case the exporters have control and when you buy a group of higher end Tokay you are 'required to buy' "other" animals as well. If they show up as nice Aberrant or really unusual/weird/cool individuals, then the $100 each might be worth it. Its when half of those are no more than $1 normals that you really get PO'ed about the whole slimy game.

At least these are at worst, just slightly overpriced patternless that I can work with and not a $1 normal from Indo that I paid $100 for.

But this has been my MO all along. I've over paid, (By US market standards), for most of my collection. It was the only way to acquire some of the better animals. Obviously I don't believe I'll see a profit from my Tokay investment. I do look to improve pricing, quality and maybe prove out some of these guys in the next couple of years. Oh and breaking even would be nice, HA!

Happy Friday Everyone!!!
This baby patternless BGY tokay was out and cruising around his enclosure this morning.
So I snapped a few pics.
His colors are just starting to come in.
I like the sort of mirror reflection in the pic.
