C. Angulifer ??

I just purchased a breeding pair of these guys about a week ago. Beautiful little guys... I set there cage up by placing PVC tunnels under the sand on the cooler side as well as the hotter side. They seem to enjoy the tunnels, but maybe a little too much. I never get to see them at all. Whenever the lights go out it seems like they might come out of the tunnels but shoot back in as soon as I enter the room. I know they are probably acclimating, but I was wondering if they are usually this skittish? I heard they were pretty bold geckos. Should I try to simplify there cage? I've also read that using a infrared bulb or night viewing bulb is a no-no because it will mess with the geckos, what is your opinion?
Thanks

Red bulbs are not suggested for most reptiles, but the purple ones are ok in my experience. Heat emitters are even better, but more expensive. Overall, my geckos will hide all day, and come out at night. They will readily feed well before I close their enclosures, and can be coaxed out by food. They do prefer to dig out under hides, and hang out in these spots for most of the day though. They are a great gecko, with a lot of interesting behaviors and cool quirks. They also bite harder than any other gecko I have been bitten by at their size. They can draw blood.

Night viewing bulbs are fine to use if you want to just turn them on for a few minutes to observe your geckos. They shouldn't however be left on all night long or used as a heat source. A CHE is not expensive and will last for a very long time and provide better heat than any incandescent bulb can. Your geckos will become more trusting over time. The less stress they have, the more comfortable they will be, and the more likely they are to come out and demonstrate natural behaviors.

C. angulifer are usually very active geckos. Are yours CB? I would advise to check for internal parasites if they are WC. Otherwise, I guess you are right, they need time to settle in their new enclosure. You will see them basking and run like little monsters when you put crickets in their enclosure. Don't hesitate to feed them often and a lot, they are HUGE eaters. And be careful with your fingers, they love to bite and although not serious, their bite is not particularly pleasant
