Tokay Gecko egg misshapen.

My female just laid 2 more eggs and 1 of them is misshapen. Now she can not get into the tube with the eggs. She has spent a lot of time just outside the tube guarding them. There are 3 other tubes in there for her. I also removed the male about 6 weeks ago. Hopefully that will stop her from laying eggs.

are you able to keep the humidity up? I would be concerned about them drying. it's also possible for them to lay duds. the color's good, and if it is a dud, it should degrade over time and isn't likely to harm the other eggs.

They don't look like they're good to me. So misshapen like that. But, it doesn't hurt anything to let them go and see what happens.

I think she had her tail up against it when she laid it which caused the curved shape. One hatched about a month ago.

I would think the small shape of the tube contributed since there wouldn't be much room for her to maneuver around the other eggs to continue using the spot. She should also eventually eat any eggs that are not good so I would just leave them.

I'd be inclined to use a bigger tube next season. Most Tokay like to lay in the exact same spot over and over again so they'll need room for all her additional eggs next season.

Good luck and see how they do.

Female Tokay knocked 2 more eggs out.

My female knocked another 2 eggs out of her tube last night. She knocked 2 other eggs out before, 1 each on 2 other occasions. Each time I tried to put them in another tube in the original orientation. This time 1 of the eggs looks cracked. I wonder if there is a chance for them to hatch? The first egg looks like something black has settle out on the bottom of the egg when using a flash light.

I'd say the top one's a dud and the bottom one may hold but will probably dry up. I'd replace the small diameter tube a.s.a.p. She's just does not seem to be doing well with the small tube.

When I have ones that occasional get unglued for whatever reason, I just put them in a deli cup with some slightly moist vermiculite or perlite and incubate them as I would any other eggs. If they're fertile, they'll hatch out. TOkay eggs and babies are tough little suckers!

Yeah, the shell can be cracked as long as the inner membrane is intact. The shell is porous anyway, it just gives the inner egg some protection.

In the snake world it's not uncommon to 'peak' into eggs at there later stages to see what morph is hiding within. They carefully cut a whole in the shell part only. A bit tricky but it illustrates the point.

Good luck,

Michael

Just saw a baby Tokay Gecko in the enclosure that appeared to be maybe a week old. Checked the two eggs in the picture with the car keys. The bottom egg that was cracked has hatched. I checked those two eggs with a flashlight a week ago and all I could see was yellow. So the moral to the story is don't throw out your eggs. They still could be good.
