Eye/shed problem

Hello I have 2 Leo's. One I got when I was 9 and she is now a healthy, fat 11 yr old. My other guy, Reptar, was given to me by a friend because he was dumped at her job. Not sure how old he is but he's pretty small. He sheds once a week and never takes his own shed off. I have a humid hide, a cool side and a warm side. I'm not doing anything wrong yet he still does not take his shed off. I soak him in Luke warm water and remove the shed gently. I always make sure it's off his toes. Yesterday, he had his eyes covered so I gently with a wet q tip, removed the shed from one eye and then the next eye. To my horror one of his eyes was white. At first I thought he was blind but he immediately started licking it and then I realized it was puss. I've been doing saline drops all day and it's starting to look better! What else can I do? Is shedding frequently normal? If it doesn't clear up completely tmrw I'm taking him to the vet. Just wanted to know if there's anything else I can do! He's eating well and overall acting normal but I'm really worried about the eye. Thank you :sad:

How is Reptar doing? Have you been able to take him to a reptile vet?

Internet advice is no substitute for hands-on vet care. He needs to be seen now in order to get the proper antibiotics.

Temperatures for all leos regardless of size:
88-93 F (31-34 C) ground temp at warm end inside the warm dry hide
no greater than 85 F (29.5 C) air temp - 4 inches above ground on the warm end
no greater than 75 F (24.5 C) air temp - 4 inches above ground on the cool end

Leave the UTH on 24/7. Can turn off overhead heating at night.

His eye is much better! I used saline drops for contacts and by the next day I was able to see his eye with no secretion whatsoever. I think some of the subtrate from his tank got in his eye. Already took it out and replaced it with paper towels. Thanks for the reply!

You are most welcome. You may even wish to consider slate, porcelain, or ceramic tiles as a substrate. They are permanent, easily cleaned, look good, and are cheap.

PS: Tiles are good heat conductors, too, for under tank heaters.
