Christinus Marmoratus Marmoratus sloughing

Does anybody know how often a marbled gecko sheds its skin? We've had ours for 15 months now, and today is the first time we've observed him sloughing. The last couple of nights he's been a lot less active and not eating much, and yesterday I noticed that he was looking a bit wrinkly. I was a little bothered, but now all is clear! He seems to be managing the slough fine.

I read that they slough when they grow, but he is the same length he was when we got him. Do they slough just to keep the skin in good condition as well?

Apologies if I'm sounding stupid here. It's hard to find information about these little guys.

ETA: in the time it's taken me to log on and post this, he's finished sloughing (he still had his tail to do), eaten the skin and is now running around and being sociable again. Wow. No wonder we haven't seen this before. Feeling very privileged right now!
