I think my Standings Day Geckos pair is a sexual pair. What do you think?

I received these from Richard Quick this spring. I never hold them but decided today to catch them and try to determine if they are a pair. I had to catch them because they are in a screen cage so it was too hard to see due to the mesh.

What do you think?

Thanks for the replies.

Question - do males usually get the yellow coloration around that area as this one has?

Pic of the enclosure. This pair is in the cage on the left. The other pair is on the right. The other pair is about 1/4 smaller so I have not bothered to try and sex them yet.

Nice pair! Males will always have that coloration, even at a very young age. Females will not. It is sometimes very easy to sex Phelsuma standingi shortly after they hatch as males will be rather conspicuous in that you can see pores and coloration. They are a great species to work with! There was a post discussing this a few years ago and Jon Boone brought it up. I looked for it through the search engine, but could not find it. I will post a link as soon as I do. If they are more than a few months old, you can sex them 100%, but I have seen males at just a few days after hatching. Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the reply. I did not know they are so easily sexed... So, I think the second pair is a pair of girls.

One interesting note: I nearly broke pair No 2, female No 1's tail off in late June. She escaped and during recapture I put my hand over her and caught her tail. Her tail started to break off and in two places it was separated and where it was split the flesh was twitching all over. Thought for sure the whole thing was gonna come off. You can see in the pic of her from above, about 1" from the base, on the left side is a striation. It was so bad I was going to break the rest off. You can see that it completely healed over. I am shocked at how complete the healing is... when it happened it looked like I tried to cut the tail off with a knife.
