I'd suggest putting them somewhere with a bit more ventilation. Mine doesn't smell noticeably (except if I've got the doors open and there's REALLY fresh poo).

They really need access to real daylight (which I'm guessing they can't get in your closet regardless of size). Frequent cleaning of the viv (as soon as possible after each poo) will also help to keep the smell down.

We agree that they need light, for their day and nightcycle, but artificial light will do, they don't really need natural light as mentioned above.
Otherwise please explain al the basements, garages, etc... with no windows that are turned into a gecko room..? No natural light there, and it works fine for many succesfull keepers, including us.

I think the use of air fresheners around geckos is not a great idea. reptiles are more susceptible to respiratory irritants than people. I would not use it.

I find that my herp room only stinks if I need to clean cages or the roach bin. there's a faint but definite odor to reptiles, but it doesn't smell unpleasant if they're kept clean.

eh, you asked for advice and we told you what we think. if you're choosing to use an air freshener, I hope you will monitor your geckos closely for signs of respiratory infection.

Those things can kill a parrot it can infect a gecko. In a none vented area would not recommend it . I use products safe for parrots but only in a well vented area.
