UTH in a wooden enclosure

this may be a daft question, but here goes...

Neo now has a nice new wooden enclosure that we are setting up, but I am not sure about the UTH, as its not a tank now - its a wooden enclosure. Do I still need an under tank heater or is there a different kind that is better for wooden enclosures?

And as I am using tiles as substrate - can these sit directly ontop of the heatmat or does there need to be a gap between the mat and the tile?

You also asked me to put weight/length of NEO (from my post about tank upgrades).... he is 8.5inches long and weighs 44g....photos will follow soon

any help on the heating mat would be most appreciated...set up has come to a halt until we know whats best.

Personally I would put the UTH under the cermic tiles, you might need to double layer them to add some heat resistance. You could then drill a hole for the cord to run out the side/back and caulk around it to seal so no crickets get away.

Putting it under the wood wouldnt work as well as wood is a poor conductor of heat, you would have too much resistance and need to have it at higher power. With it on a thermostat and under the tile you shouldnt need full power and save some $ on electricity.

Actually you probably will need 2 sets of tiles, one to stick down on the UTH, and the other set to remove for cleaning.

You're welcome.

I made 18 of those contraptions back in 2000, and they still work perfectly after all these years.
