Advice with heating

Im building a styrofoam insert for my leopard gecko vivarium, and was wondering if my method for providing under belly heat will work. Im building 3 caves, and I was going to place a heat mat one layer of styrofoam deeper then the layer they will be on. I was going to also glue/place flat rocks to absorb the heat. Will this work? They will be attached to thermostats.

I dunno if I would put a UTH under styrofoam, could melt. The part where the UTH is a might cut out and leave as tile over it.

Ya, it will "melt" at 240C, but all thermopolymers have a glass transition temperature which for polystyrene is about 100C, still high, probably wont melt.

And no, it wouldn't transfer heat because it acts as an insulator. Best to do as I said and cut out the UTH spot.

You want something that will hold/transfer heat. Polystyrene just won't do it enough. When I redo my tank I had already started plans/ideas. This was one of the things I would have to look at.

I was all trying to design a small water reservoir below the humid hide above the UTH that would slowly evaporate the water up into it.
