Why did Tokay eat their eggs?

About 3 weeks ago, my female laid a pair of eggs. Since then she has been guarding them well, but today I woke up to find the eggs had been eaten. I'm not sure if it was my male or female. It is only the single pair in the tank. I had always heard Tokays were such good parents, I was not expecting this. I hadn't messed with either gecko or the lay site since they were laid. What could have caused this? Will any future eggs also be eaten? I don't have an incubator, so removing the cork bark with the eggs on it in the future isn't really an option.

it could hae happened for a number of reasons. tokays are excellent parents and will eat there eggs if a defect or infertility is sensed. was it her first clutch? sometimes they are not quite developed the first time around. kind of a test run you could say. just look for that next pair of eggs. and keep on eye on your female too mke sure she is getting proper maybe a little extra nutrion as the it causes much stress on her =). just keep an eye on em.

Infertile eggs will usually be eaten. And as mentioned already, make sure they're both being fed properly. If they're hungry, or lacking in calcium, etc, they may eat their eggs. It doesn't happen often with tokays, but it does happen.
