Cricket split ovipositor

I've noticed that a lot of my female crickets (acheta domestica) develop split ovipositors as they get older. I don't know if this is a genetic defect or it is because of the 1/8" screen that I keep over the egg laying tub. I get the impression that these crickets with the split ovipositors die sooner than the normal female crickets. Does this prevent the female from laying anymore eggs. I've read that a female cricket that lays eggs lives longer than one that doesn't lay eggs. Anyway I pick these crickets split ovipositors as the next ones to be feed to my Tokay Geckos. Anybody know the cause of this and does it prevent the females from laying eggs.
