Clay hides?

So I was thinking about getting some new hides since one of my leos is starting to outgrow some of her old ones. I had the idea of sculpting some hides myself out of a water-based clay, which can dry without the use of a kiln, and I figured would make some decent dry hides. The clay itself is inexpensive--I can get 25lbs for about 12$. Will this kind of clay be harmful for leos?

If so, what are some other materials I could use?

As long as it's natural and non-toxic, it should be safe to live in, but if you want to make something to hold food or water in, you should glaze it first. And of course make sure it has no sharp or too rough edges so your gecko doesn't get scraped up.

You may also want to consider making the walls of whatever you make as thin as possible without breaking. The thinner it is, the lighter it will be, and the safer it will be.

I have used the clay from Walmart that you bake at 150 degrees, Fahrenheit. Which is pretty much just air dried. Do made hides and water dishes with it. it says on the package not to use it for food dishes. I interperate that as, not microwave or dishwasher safe and if you do not have a glaze or clear coat over top, do not eat off of it. So I put a non toxic clear coat over it from lowes, and they have worked for me for months now with out any problems,
