Holodactylus africanus (African clawed)

Here's some info on my African Claweds.
My breeding group consists of one male to four females kept in a 50ltr RUB. Substrate I use is Tortoise earth which is dry....then have a number of humid hides which are 2/3 filled with damp eco earth. I set them up this way so I can monitor all gecko's health and ease of retrieving eggs if laid. If they're in deep substrate neither of this would be possible.
The substrate is kept dry until around end of March start of April then I go through a week of heavy spraying (just enough to make the substrate damp) giving a rainy season which seems to kick the females into ovulation. But for some reason not all the females breed.
Only got two eggs last year..but this year I'm upto 7 now but they've come from the same female but a different female from last year. You'd think if one female is laying then there's no reason why the others don't...so still a fair bit of tweeking of their husbandry is needed. Maybe a certain female selects a certain male???

I set up gecko's up separately in a shoebox size enclosure when I first get them..this takes all the stress away from being pestered/competition for food from other geckos. They stay in these enclosures until the following year in which they get paired/grouped up. I bring the hatchlings up the same way. The enclosure is half filled with eco earth...kept moist under the hide and left to dry out on top.

And finally how I'm incubating the eggs...even though some don't look healthy they still hatch..don't throw away unless they sink and go moldy...

Fingers crossed for females so I can move to the next step of breeding F1's.
