Laying infertile eggs

So my female crested is about 2 years oldand i notcied today and yesterday that when she emerges from her sleeping spot i find her half buried in the substrate. Now ive read that this could mean humidity problems but she just went through a successful shed so i know it cant be that. This leads me to my other question since she has never been breed before. Is she preparing to lay eggs? Although they may be infertile this takes the same toll on her body. Has anyone every noticed this with their females?

sure, some crested girls lay virgin eggs. just make sure she's well-fed and she'll be fine. keep an eye on body condition and check her calcium sacs every other month or so. most girls will naturally cycle down in the winter and get the rest they need if there's fluctuation in ambient heat and light. sometimes they don't and that can be a little scary; just keep an eye on her nutrition.

Agreed, usually they only lay one or two sets and that's it though, just keep a close eye on her and don't worry to much abouth it, it's propably yust her way of telling she is ready for it. :)

She's definitely a healthy girl lol chows on her dubia and CGD. I was just worried that she'd bury the eggs and I wouldn't know until the awful smell since I don't have a lay box handy and it was a weird behavior that I never saw from her before.

if she has a soil-type substrate you'll never smell the eggs; they'll just decomp into the dirt.

here's a link to a short vid for checking calcium sacs. I prefer to encourage them to open their mouths with a small rubber spatula to reduce potential for injuring delicate mouth tissue, but otherwise this is the procedure.

Yea I have a natural viv so the substrate is a mixture of coco fiber, charcoal moss etc. I'll check that video out, thank you Aimee.
