Fun idea with questions

So I'm getting the itch to remodel Bahamut's tank (Bahamut being the gecko in my profile picture).

I'm considering doing a Final Fantasy XIV themed (since I'm currently playing it and the FF series is where his name came from).

However, I want to try to paint/edit the color of the moist hide (the 3-in-1 that Elizabeth recommends). Is there a safer paint to use? Other materials that could be better in the long run? Of course with any modifications I would make sure it didn't go back into the tank until any odor is long since gone.

You can paint it with regular acrylics and use a water based sealer on top (about 3 coats).

Are you redoing the whole tank and doing a custom foam insert or just moving things around and painting? My husband and I (mostly me though) upgraded Edgar to a 20 long soon after we got him and did our own insert. It was time consuming but SO much fun. I'm actually looking to upgrade again to a 40 gal breeder and do another. If you need any tips feel free to PM me! Pics are in the naturalisic viv section but we've since added flat stones and grapewood to his tank so those pics make it look a bit bare.
