Housing

I'm currently raising my male and female geckos seperate, as instructed. But can I house them together when their fully grown? If so, will they breed whenever they feel like it? I want to breed them, but only a few times.

I've never tried myself, but I've heard that it's not a good idea to house them together. The male will often be rather aggressive towards the female (if you've seen them mate, you'll get a good idea of that), which can result in bite injuries, dropped tails and such. Their natural breeding season is from february-september so they'd probably mate within that period, but it's not advised to breed a female more than once a year (the process is quite hard on the females). The best and safest way to do it, would be to keep them separate and then remove both into a separate breeding-box when you want to breed them.

Just because they are opposite sex does not mean they will get along. I had a seemingly mild mannered female that would get rather feisty and aggressive when she was introduced to a male.

If you keep them together and they do get along you will not really be able to regulate just when they are in the mod to reproduce.

Breeding should be very calculated on your part.

Good luck.
