I've never tried myself, but I've heard that it's not a good idea to house them together. The male will often be rather aggressive towards the female (if you've seen them mate, you'll get a good idea of that), which can result in bite injuries, dropped tails and such. Their natural breeding season is from february-september so they'd probably mate within that period, but it's not advised to breed a female more than once a year (the process is quite hard on the females). The best and safest way to do it, would be to keep them separate and then remove both into a separate breeding-box when you want to breed them.
