Today i went to get out one of my young crested geckos whose still pretty small in size out and he had a mouth full of dirt & was basicly dead, after flushing his mouth several times nothing happened, he layed there dead for a good 3 hours i flushed his mouth again and he went back to normal, hes breathing normal and licking water out of his dish, any suggestions on what else i should do?

If he is acting normal again i don't think there is anything more you can do at this point, keep a close eye on it though...

If you could post a pic of the enclosure, it could show us where you put the food. He/she may be eating it if it cant find the food or feels like its not isolated enough, or if its stressed. I had the same problem with mine, so take out all of the substrate, and put 1 layer or 2 of paper towels that wont tear easily and are absorbent. Make sure to check all of its poops to see if any of the substrate comes out, and once its clean poop I advise still keeping it on the paper towel till you are completely sure its safe otherwise. Impaction can kill them if he /she ingested enough, so keep a very close eye to check if he/she is eating (make sure its a food with plenty of nutrients, no baby food or just crickets) and if things get serious, take them to a vet and get a checkup and/or fecal test. Best of luck :)

Baby crested geckos should be kept on paper towels imo. I never use dirt for the babies or juvies.

I've never had a problem with mine eating substrate. The CGD is on a ledge and they have never had a problem finding it even when I out them in a 18-18-24 ZooMed at a young age. The ledges are attached to the front portions of the tanks and are not hidden at all.
