Exo Terra Gecko Cave review

I generally don't like to post negative reviews about products, but I must say, please do not buy the Exo Terra Gecko Cave if you are planning on using it as a moist hide.

I had purchased 2: The medium and the large. Both are no longer being used due to mold growing inside.

I have switched to black Tupperware for my moist hides. Both geckos seem to enjoy it.

Really? I have both medium and large myself and we've had no issues with them. I think they're excellent

My medium one isn't that bad. It hasn't started growing mold in it (yet), but when I would wash it I would feel the sides and it would feel very slippery and slick, as if something was growing on it.

My large one is absolutely awful. Very porous interior, the mold got in there and I can't get it out.

Do you keep your moist hides on the UTH?

I do, yes. I like them, the moisture evaporates and collects on the walls so they can lick it off and it's dried out by the next day, so I just mist every day.

That's interesting. I'm glad that they work well for you. But I ended up throwing my large one in the garbage. I was thinking of reusing it on the cool side, or even as the dry hide, but I don't want to risk leaving something with black mold in the enclosure.

Just my luck I guess.

Well I just ordered two mediums both will be dry hides my ambient humidity supports healthy sheds. We will see.

I use a medium exo terra cave for my juvenile and have had no problems using it as a humid hide thus far.
