Local Leopard Gecko Rescue

I was searching craigslist to see if there was anything interesting I could pick up for Lyla, our leopard gecko.

I came across a post of someone selling 2 young leopard geckos. I checked the pics and I didn't like what I saw.

So I sent the link over to my wife to show her and immediately texted back, "Go get them!"

I contacted the owner and made an appointment come over and look at them.

When we (my wife and I) got there it was worse than I thought. They were in the basement with only a regular incandescent bulb to heat them. Here in Michigan our basements are about 55*-60* right now.

There was not a single hide for them, just some sand, a couple flat rocks and a water bowl.

I picked them up they felt ice cold.

We said we'd take them and we did.

They're here with us now and they have everything they need to grow up to be healthy and happy geckos. But I warned my wife that we can't rescue every gecko we see or we'd be overrun. At least two have a safe and health new home. The only thing they're missing now is names.

Their old enclosure:

Their new home. This is all we had on short notice but they will be getting an upgrade as they get older.

good for you. rescue can be and often is heartbreaking; I'm glad you're able to give these guys a better home.

How are your little rescues doing? They sure are cuties!

Thanks for asking.

They're doing great. Happy, healthy and pop putting on weight.

I can now put my hand in with them and they'll crawl right up.

It turns out that they're both males. I didn't see any fighting or evidence of fighting but I separated them anyway. I'm not really sure at what age they start fighting but better safe than sorry.
